Everyone back for 'Canes

Liberty High School's softball team has the good fortune of returning all of its players for the 2014 season.

"I know what we have, and we'll be pretty good, I think, but once your team name is out there, and you start reading some stuff, and start playing some teams, if you look too far ahead, things will bite you, so we'll just take it one game at a time," said Hurricane coach Rich Giering.

Infielders for the Hurricanes will be Mariah Kondravey at first base, Nicole Iasiello at second base, Alyshia Dellatore at shortstop, and Emily Cecchini at third base. Catching will be Ashley Malik.

Liberty's outfield is still to be determined as of Press deadlines, but included in the mix should be Lexi Scala and Lily Acosta.

"It's been a battle with the younger girls against the older girls. The younger ones really pushed the older ones," Giering said.

Lauren Epsaro, Deb Renner, and Victoria Schmidt are the Hurricane pitchers, who will be coached by former Moravian College player, Maria DeBonis Braxmeier.

The first time the Hurricanes have been on a field was last Friday during a scrimmage against Catasauqua.

"We look good, considering we've been in and out. You can only do so much. We were able to make the plays. We looked pretty good, considering," said Giering.

This week, Liberty will host Bethlehem Catholic at 4:00 p.m. at Liberty.

"We're ready to get going," Giering said.
