Willow Green residents are not happy with the rising costs of services for maintaining their private community.

Residents attended the March 13 Allen Township Board of Supervisors meeting to express their concerns.

Frank Cocivera, representing residents of Willow Green, discussed with the supervisors potential areas where the township and the Willow Green Homeowner's Association might possibly reach an agreement on matters affecting the seniors living in the development.

Township Supervisor Larry Oberly said Supervisor Dale Hassler and he met with residents from Willow Green on issues regarding streets, refuse pickup, snow removal and other matters.

The majority of the homes are located in Allen Township with a small sliver in the Borough of Northampton.

The development has two access points, both with wooden gates.

"Right now, I don't see the volume as an issue," Cocivera said regarding garbage removal.

Oberly said refuse is off the table, noting the township and the development use the same private hauler.

Regarding street maintanece and snow removal, Cocivera said both are the responsibility of Willow Green because it's a privately run development and its roads are not part of the township's road grid.

"Their issue is the cost of maintaining roads in the private community," Oberly told the board.

"I feel personally we would help," Hassler said. "We would help anyone."

"We pay taxes," Cocivera told the supervisors.

"Everyone in the township pays taxes," Oberly replied.

There was mention of a growing concern over the costs of bringing private contractors into the gated community, but the supervisors said they currently have an agreement set up with PennDOT.

The township receives funds from PennDOT to plow specific state roads. A similar pact could possibly be arranged with the Willow Green development.

Oberly said it is up to the resident's group if they consider another meeting with the supervisors necessary.
