Fern I. Smith, 83, from Germansville, died March 13, 2014, in her home.

She was the wife of the late Henry H. Smith who died Jan. 26.

Born Jan. 23, 1931, in Palmerton, she was the daughter of the late William H.A. Klotz Sr. and Madeline L. (Haydt) Klotz.

She was a sewing machine operator at the former Ironton Fashion for 20 years before retiring in 1986.

A member of the United Church of Christ congregation of Heidelberg Union Church, she was a volunteer at Goodwill Fire Co. No. 1 and its Ladies Auxiliary, Germansville.

Her survivors include children Leonard B. and his wife, Patricia, Keith H. and his wife, Barbara, Catherine L. Schwartz and her husband, Jeffrey, and Mark K. all of Germansville; siblings Karl R. Klotz of Slatington, Audrey C. Kemmerer of Whitehall, Bonnie L. Palansky of Coudersport, Donna D. Seip, William H.A. Jr. and Glendra J. Knappenberger all of Walnutport; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren.
