Bethlehem Catholic High School's girls basketball season came to an end in the second round of the PIAA State Championships last week after losing to Scranton Prep, 42-21, at Hazleton High School.
"They really showed up to win that game. We were out of sync," said Becahi coach Bill Lanscek.
The Scranton Prep Classics led 15-4 after the first quarter.
Scranton guard, Tricia Byrne, hit a three-pointer and a jumper, and four more points by Jessica Jenco left the Hawks at a deficit, ultimately too large to overcome.
"They played with intensity and a real desire to win. I didn't see any of that in our girls. We didn't run our offenses," Lanscek said.
Turnovers and poor shooting also plagued the Hawks, who pulled to within ten points in the fourth quarter.
"They were better that day. They were quick," said Lanscek.
The Hawks ended the season with a record of 25-4, going undefeated in the Lehigh Valley Conference and losing only to Archbishop Wood, Archbishop Carroll, and Phillipsburg.
"Against Archbishop Wood, we learned what a really good team is like. From Archbishop Carroll, we learned we have to be ready every game. From Phillipsburg, we learned home cookin'," Lanscek said. "They showed us what good teams were like and where we had to get to."
