A dear diary: "Diary of a Worm, a Spider, and a Fly" will be presented at 2 p.m. March 23, Miller Symphony Hall, 23 N. Sixth St., Allentown. The Omaha Theater Company is touring "Diary of a Worm, a Spider, and a Fly" through March, having begun the tour in October 2013. The show, adapted for the stage by Joan Cushing, is based on the "Diary of a Worm" series written by Doreen Cronin and Harry Bliss, with music and lyrics by Joan Cushing. The Omaha touring production is directed by New York City director Rob Urbinati. The story has to do with Worrying Worm, Fearless Fly and Sassy Spider finding their special talent on the first day of school. Back to the 80s: "Rock of Ages," which features 28 hit 1980's rock tunes, will be staged at 7 p.m. March 23, State Theatre for the Arts, 453 Northampton St., Easton. The jukebox musical, opening on Broadway in 2009, received five Tony nominations. Tom Cruise starred in the 2012 movie as rock singer Stacee Jaxx. Joel Koekstra, a member of Night Ranger, whose hit, "Sister Christian," is performed in the show, and Tommy Kessler, a member of Blondie, are in the musical's stage band. The arena rock love story is told through the hits of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin,' Jefferson Starship's "We Built This City," Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" and Foreigner's "I Want To Know What Love Is." Funky cabaret: Funk Xpress with Gene Perla, above, performs at 7:30 p.m. March 21 in the Jazz Cabaret Series in the Rodale Community Room, Miller Symphony Hall, 23 N. Sixth St., Allentown. Perla a producer, entrepreneur and educator at Lehigh University, is joined by a band of renowned talent for one of the debut performances of the newly-formed Funk Xpress, including Adam Niewood, reeds; Joe Magnarelli, brass; Bill Washer, strings; Jon Ballantyne, keyboards, and Vern Mobley, drums.
