Three Bross sisters are part of two state playoff teams

The Bross sisters are about as close as any sisters you can find. The only distance between them is on the basketball court, where senior Ashley plays for Central Catholic and twin juniors Erica and Erin play for Parkland.

The three could have all been on the same team, but chose different paths because of friendships that they had developed, leading to head-to-head matchups with both teams competing in the Lehigh Valley Conference.

Parkland picked up a key regular season win over the Vikettes during the regular season, but Ashley's team got some revenge when her team knocked her sisters' team out of the LVC Tournament.

"It just wound up that they had more friends at Parkland and wanted to be there and I had more friends at Central Catholic that I love to be with," said Ashley, whose Central Catholic team was knocked out of the PIAA Tournament in a disappointing 29-27 first-round loss to Abington Heights. "So I wound up there with my friends and they wound up at Parkland."

On the bright side, both teams went to districts and states, which made the competition easier thanks to the two schools being in different classifications. Parkland competes with larger schools in Class AAAA, while Central Catholic is in AAA. The different classes also play on different nights, making it easier for the family to root each other on in their games.

"It's definitely different," said Erica Bross. "We're more supportive of each other and we want each other to do well in games and move forward in states. We do get to see her games more now because they play on Wednesdays and Saturdays and that's fun and she was here [against CB East] like she always is."

Ashley had high hopes that her sisters would be able to go deep into the PIAA Tournament, but the Lady Knights of North Penn High School had different plans and ousted Parkland in the second round.

"I think they have a very good team," said Ashley of Parkland. "They hustle and they just don't ever let up. The thing that has impressed me with them is that you never know who is going to step up."

On various nights, Erica or Erin would be among the several Parkland players who took turns having the hot hand in games. Luckily for the Bross family, the two never found themselves in battles about who would be the one to lead their team. In fact, the opposite was true.

"Erica and I have been happy about getting to play with each other and we don't ever get jealous about who is doing what because we're happy for each other if we have a good game and we help to pick each other up, too," said Erin, who led Parkland with 12 points in their first round win over CB East.

"Erin is playing so well," said Erica. "I'm glad that she's been the one to step up and is making her shots and making big plays for us."

The twins are almost inseparable and are usually side by side when the team comes onto the court and they always pair up during warm-ups. Their closeness helps the pair on the court, as well.

"We understand each other a lot," said Erica. "She understands when I want to drive or when I'm looking to pass to her. On and off the court, we just understand each other very well and we're all very close."

Their older sister knows all too well just how close her younger sisters are both on and off the court.

"They have some of that twin thing going," Ashley said with a laugh. "They've always been like that and they're so great together."
