The end of the Weisenberg Township supervisors March 10 meeting was the highlight of the evening.

Supervisor Tom Wehr presented former township secretary Donald Breininger with a plaque from the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors commemorating his many years of service to the community.

Breininger logged 42 years with the township as secretary/treasurer.

Township secretaries serving 25 years or more can be inducted into the PSATS Secretary Hall of Fame.

In other matters, the Environmental Advisory Committee has a new member, Jaclyn Grynaviski, who will serve as committee chair.

Other members are Carl Zvanut, Diane Matthews-Gehringer, Siegfried T. Mayr, Michael McCartney, Rosemarie Lister and Steven Unrath.

The EAC is active in retaining and preserving open space and working in the township park on the trail system.

Weisenberg Township Volunteer Fire Company's report was given by Chief Scott Freeman.

He said recycling day would be 9 a.m.-noon April 12. A hoagie sale is currently being conducted to raise money for the fire company. A sign-up sheet is at the township building. Orders will be taken until March 25, with pickup at the fire company April 3.

Freeman said the fire company's propane budget was exceeded due to the harsh winter.

He also told supervisors an anonymous donor wants to donate funds for a sign at the fire station.

He asked the board for approval, to have Wehr help design the sign and for the road crew to dig holes for the posts.
