Volunteer firefighters from Western Salisbury, Eastern Salisbury and Cetronia responded to a fire in an elevator's electrical control panel in the 1247 Building at Cedar Crest Professional Park, Salisbury Township, around noon March 5.
Western Salisbury Fire Department volunteers were already responding to a motor vehicle accident along Cedar Crest Boulevard, at the entrance to the professional park, when the second call came in for a fire in the structure.
Western Salisbury Fire Department Chief Joshua Wells diverted an engine to the 1247 Building and, because of the nature of the high occupancy structure, immediately called for engines and manpower from Eastern Salisbury Fire Department and South Whitehall's Cetronia Station.
The fire was quickly extinguished by building services personnel using dry chemical extinguishers.
Because smoke and fumes spread throughout the structure, building fire alarms led to an evacuation of the three-story office building.
After firefighters vented the building and checked air quality levels throughout the structure, evacuees were allowed to return about an hour later.
