Two named to Big 33 game
Bethlehem Catholic High School cheerleaders, Brie Baughman and Lauren Rebovich, secured spots on the Big 33 Classic Cheer Team after an all-day try-out last month in Hershey, Pa.
Over 100 girls competed for 72 places, and Baughman and Rebovich are the first Bethlehem Catholic students to attain this achievement.
Baughman said, "It is an honor. I'm very excited to be a part of this. A lot of girls don't get to say that. It's something really cool."
Representatives from Big 33 Cheerleading taught the cheerleader hopefuls a dance and two cheers. In addition, all were asked to do two jumps and some tumbling.
"The dance was kind of hard. We learned it in 20 minutes and performed it a half hour later. It takes awhile to adjust to the moves," said Baughman.
Baughman was the third cheerleader to try out, but Rebovich was number 81.
"I was very nervous. I just stood with my group. We went in intervals of five. I thought I did well, but I thought I definitely could have done better. I think they took into account that we just learned everything," Rebovich said.
Two weeks later, Baughman and Rebovich were notified they had made the squad by email.
"Brie told me she made it the day before I got my email, so I was freaking out," said Rebovich.
Now, both girls are expected to raise $595 each for uniforms and travel expenses, among other things.
"As soon as school lets out, we go to Hershey for a week to learn the cheers and everything," Baughman said.
The Big 33 Classic will air on the NFL Network on June 14.
"It will just be cool to meet other cheerleaders from Pennsylvania and work with them and be around people who love the same thing you love," said Baughman.
Select cheerleaders will have an opportunity to win a college scholarship. Baughman is planning on attending California University of Pennsylvania, and Rebovich is planning on attending Rutgers University.
