Flamenco soul: In celebration of its 30th anniversary, Flamenco Vivo, above, presents "The Soul of Flamenco," 8 p.m. March 14, Miller Symphony Hall, 23 N. Sixth St., Allentown. The company features an all-star cast of Spanish dancers and musicians in newly-created pieces and a restaging of "Luz y Sombra," an early work by Roberto Lorca, company co-founder, along with Carlota Santana. The program encompasses traditional Flamenco, originating from Andalusia, a province in southern Spain. Flamenco was influenced by the Arabic, Judaic and gypsy cultures. Passion and intense emotion is expressed with intricate virtuoso guitar playing and footwork, hand-clapping and castanets all to the beat of percussive music and song. Tickets: 610-432-6715

A sign of life: You only have a few more opportunities to see the dynamic Civic Theatre production of the Lehigh Valley premiere of "Other Desert Cities," Jon Robin Baitz's funny and poignant award-winning play, 7 p.m. March 13, 14 and 8 p.m. March 15, Nineteenth Street Theatre, 527 N. 19th St., Allentown. Above, from left: Barry Glassman (Lyman Wyeth), Will Morris (Trip Wyeth), Becky Engborg (Polly Wyeth) and Gretchen Furst (Brooke Wyeth) put the fun in dysfunctionalism with a holiday serving of a family beef on wry. "The family is a cross-section, a microcosm of American politics and perspective. That conflict creates some really intriguing tension, as well as some laugh out-loud one-liners," says Civic Artistic Director William Sanders, who directed the show.
