STUDENT PROFILE: James Du Chateau, LV Charter HS for the Arts

Grade: 12

Family members: Mother, Debra Du Chateau; father James Du Chateau; and older sister, Jaclyn Du Chateau

Favorite subject: My favorite subject is creative writing. I find a freedom of the soul whenever I write, so I especially enjoy that class.

Activities: Of course, dance. I dance at school every day and then dance at a studio at night. It's amazing that I get to do what I love every single day.

Next steps: I plan on going to college. I have applied to Juilliard, SUNY Purchase, George Mason, Fordham (Ailey School) and Marymount Manhattan. I have already been accepted into Point Park University with a half-tuition scholarship and Pace University on a $20,000 artistic scholarship.

Career goals: After experiencing the dance world and everything it has to offer, I hope to start my own dance company. My dreams are to change the face of dance in combining influence from writing, theater set pieces and dynamic movement to introduce a completely new style of dance with modern, ballet and contemporary roots.

Heroes: Simply, Martha Graham, a modern dance pioneer whose style is influenced by the pain we endure in life and a dramatic interpretation of it. Martha Graham is one of the best dancers/choreographers to walk on this planet and I hope one day to be as successful as she was.

Hobbies: I love photography and making collages out of random things that are just lying around. I also am an amusement park geek and play Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 often in hopes of having my own amusement park one day! I also collect vintage/antique items.

Current job(s): I work at YoFresh Yogurt Café in Allentown. I love it because I'm around sweet treats all day!

Volunteer/community work: I assistant teach at my dance studio; I volunteer to perform at special events/shows and I work at my church's events.

Likes: I like food (hot wings, ice cream and tacos), dance, friends, art, walking through the woods, photography, learning new things and taking on challenges.

Dislikes: I dislike too much homework, the color green, waking up early and being sick.

Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment would consist of my role as Danny Who in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas: The Musical," the original Broadway cast. I've toured with the Radio City Christmas Spectacular; I was in "Enchanted" the movie, going to the Regional High School Dance Festival (and this year to the National High School Dance Festival), performing next to Catherine Zeta-Jones in "Bright Lights, Shining Stars: NYCDA Foundation Gala," and being awarded a Silver Key for writing from the Scholastic Writing Awards.

Advice for peers: Never stop doing what you love and never let anyone criticize or try to stop what you're doing. You do you, and no matter what, people will love you for it. Make sure to make your dreams a reality.
