Piescienski honored for service to fire department

Assistant Northampton Borough Fire Department Chief Keith Piescienski, a veteran firefighter with more than four-decades of service, was recognized for his service during an awards banquet at the Northampton Memorial Community Center last Saturday evening.

Fire Chief Robert Solderich said Piescienski, who joined the fire department July 1968, will continue to serve the borough as an active firefighter.

"Keith is a role model," Edward Pany said in remarks to the large crowd.

Pany noted when Piescienski first started as a volunteer firefighter the company used older equipment to fight fires.

Today, the fire company is armed with the latest technology, equipment and has highly qualified fire personnel on its rolls, Pany added.

As many communities struggle to keep their fire departments in operation, the borough fire department has 81 men and women on its roster, some serving in dual roles as divers, firefighters, fire police and truck and hose operators.

Those also recognized and honored during the awards dinner included Edward Uherick, 59 years; Reynold Morey, 53 years; Keith Beil, 42 years; Robert Smith, 30 years; Louis Smith, 30 years; Frank Csencsits, 32 years; Joseph David, 31 years; Michael Holtzman, 31 years; Mike Dreisbach, 32 years; Eugene Zarayko, 36 years; and Frank Paukovits, 41 years. Also, 17 volunteer firefighters with five years or less of service received medals for their service as well.

"The community can't thank you enough," said State Rep. Julie Harhart, R-183rd, in her address during the dinner.
