Harold E. Shimer, city, L.U. accountant

Harold E. Shimer, 90, of Bethlehem Township, died Feb. 23, 2014, in his home. Born in Hellertown, he was a son of the late Howard M and Mabel I. (Pearson) Shimer.He was the husband of Evelyn Mae (Long) Shimer for 65 years.

He was a graduate of Bethlehem Business College and Moravian College.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and was in the European Theater during World War II.

He was an accountant for Daniels Motor Freight, Lehigh University and the City of Bethlehem for 20 years.

He was member of Christ Church U.C.C., Bethlehem, where he was involved in many organizations in the church.

He was a volunteer with the Board of the Salvation Army and a 26 year volunteer with St. Luke's Hospital's Educational Department.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Carol E. Shimer-Young and her husband James F. Young of Egg Harbor City, N.J., and their daughter Kira; a son, Dennis and his wife Andrea (Schmidt) of Schnecksville and their children Joshua and his wife Lauren and their child McKenzie; Zachary and his wife Sarah; and Zachary's twin brother Cole and his fiancee Kristina Erat; and sister, Grace Fenner, wife of the late Lester Fenner.

He was predeceased by a brother, Ernest and his wife Margaret Shimer.
