Council discusses cable fees
The Northampton Borough Council discussed the revenue generated from TV cable fees recently.
The fees play a major role in paying for the borough's operations.
At the Feb. 27 meeting, Borough Manager Gene Zarayko said the 2013 check from RCN took a slight dip and was hardly a blip on the ledger sheets.
"We received our annual commission check from RCN in the amount of $145,963. This is down $276 from 2012," Zarayko said.
"On a positive side, we received our quarterly commission check from Service Electric Cable TV in the amount of $4,800."
In other matters, Councilman Anthony Lopsonzski Jr., building, land and recreation chairman, said the recreation center's final two dances for the school year will be March 8 for seventh- and eighth-grade students and April 5 for Fourth, Fifth and Sixth-grade students.
Zarayko said the borough administration met with the owners of Edelweis Tavern.
The borough manager said the new owners were made aware of the rules and regulations, if they plan to go on remodeling.
"Currently, it looks as if they are going to open just the way it is without any major changes," Zarayko said.
Representing the borough at the meeting were Juliann Edelman, zoning officer; Ted Veresink, health officer; Michael Edelman, building inspector and Zarayko.
In other news, the council discussed the purchase of a new police vehicle.
"As you are aware, we purchase most items through Co-Stars, which is a state contract and they set the prices. We recently ordered our new cruiser and the police chief [Ron Morey], using Mr. [Ed] Pany's wording, was able to yux an additional $500 off the Co-Star's price. This unit will come from the KME Corporation in Nesquehonng."
The public works department, as of Feb. 3, purchased and used 867 tons of road salt. The green lighted shamrocks will go on street light poles as snow plowing lessens and the valentine decorations are removed.
