Charotin Hose Company Fire Calls

North Catasauqua's Charotin Hose Company responded to the following calls in December.

EMS assist

Dec. 14, 2013, 6:07 p.m.

North Catasauqua firefighters responded to the 400 block of Cypress Street along with Northampton Regional EMS for a report of respiratory distress. Because of the snow storm, firefighters were on automatic dispatch for all EMS calls.

Crew members began an assessment of the patient while EMS arrived and then assisted with extrication to the ambulance.

Smoke in a building

Dec. 17, 2013, 4:31 a.m.

Charotin personnel responded to 1717 Main St., Northampton, to assist Northampton Fire Department personnel with ventilating an apartment building after a vehicle fire in the adjacent parking lot. Smoke from the fire had extended into the building. Firefighters set up a positive pressure fan at a garage bay door, remaining on the scene approximately 20 minutes.

Carbon monoxide alarm

Dec. 26, 2013, 5:56 p.m.

Charotin Hose Company was dispatched to 407 Buttonwood St. for a report of two carbon monoxide alarms sounding. No one in the residence reported being ill.

Firefighters found levels of carbon monoxide in the dwelling. UGI was notified. Crews remained on the scene until UGI arrived. The UGI technician found a blocked chimney flue.

Smoke in a building

Dec. 27, 2013, 3:49 p.m.

North Catasauqua personnel were dispatched with the Catasauqua Fire Department for smoke in an apartment building at the Catasauqua High Rise, 534 Third St., but Charotin personnel were recalled when the Catasauqua fire chief arrived on the scene and determined additional help was not needed.

Motor vehicle

accident

Dec. 27, 2013, 11:21 a.m.

North Catasauqua Fire Police were dispatched for traffic control at a motor vehicle accident near 1042 Sixth St.

Dwelling fire

Dec. 29, 2013, 6:18 a.m.

North Catasauqua and Catasauqua firefighters reoponded to Stonewood Place for a dwelling fire along with Northampton Regional EMS. The caller reported the smoke alarms were activated and the house was filled with smoke.

Upon arrival, the Catasauqua Fire Chief reported the fire was out and requested a thermal imaging camera to the interior. No extension of the fire was found. The cause was determined to be a malfunction and melted thermostat. Charotin personnel were then released from the scene.

One patient was transported from the scene by Northampton Regional EMS.

Gas odor

Dec. 30, 2013, 9:30 a.m.

North Catasauqua personnel responded with the Catasauqua Fire Department for a reported gas odor at 519 Kurtz St. Companies on location found no signs of gas inside the dwelling but discovered an issue with a dryer. Companies cleared the scene.

Dwelling fire

Dec. 30, 2013,10:20 p.m.

North Catasauqua firefighters responded along with the Northampton Fire Department, the Allen Township fire Cepartment and Northampton Regional EMS for a reported dwelling fire, smoke in the dwelling, at 2169 Washington Ave., in Northampton. Firefighters found an oil furnace malfunction.

EMS assist

Jan. 2, 2014, 11 p.m.

Charotin personnel were dispatched along with Northampton Regional EMS for a sick person in the 1000 block of Railroad Street. Firefighters assisted with removing the sick person from the house to the ambulance. The North Catasauqua Fire Department was on on automatic dispatch for all EMS calls because of the winter storm at the time of the call.
