Albert F. Leonzi

Albert F. Leonzi Ph.D., 71, of Allentown, died on Feb. 19, 2014, in Hahnemann University Hospital, Philadelphia

He was the husband of Roseann M. (Terry) Leonzi.

Born Dec. 30, 1942, in Coaldale, he was the son of the late Joseph and Julia (Susko) Leonzi.

A 1960 graduate of Summit Hill High School, he was a Four Sport Standout having been inducted into the Carbon County Area Chapter Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.

He earned a Bachelor's Degree in arts and sciences in 1964 and a Master's Degree in secondary education in 1965, both from Penn State University.

His Doctorate in Education was earned in 1992 from Pacific Western University.

Employed at Kutztown University from 1969-05, he served as football coach and professor of secondary education.

Inducted into the Kutztown University Hall of Fame in 2007, he was also inducted into the National Football Foundation, Lehigh Valley Chapter, Hall of Fame in 2000, and the Lehigh Valley Sports Hall of Fame for Football in 2013.

Active in the life of his community, he served on the Board of Directors of Southern Parkland Youth Association, was co-director of the Special Olympics State Summer Games in 1983.

He currently was serving on the Board of Directors of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Lehigh Valley Chapter and the Iron Lakes Prostate Cancer Fund Raising Golf Tournament.

He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Orefield, where he served as eucharistic minister and usher.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, Doug S. and his wife, Melissa, of Allentown; brother Joseph and his wife, Madeline, of Hometown; grandchildren Jenna, Maeve and Gabrielle.
