The Fab Faux fan The Beatles' flame

"We are five guys, five musicians, not a look-a-like band. We honor the great records of the Beatles and bring our passion for their music to the stage."

Those are the words of Will Lee, bassist for the Fab Faux, a popular Beatles tribute band performing at 8 p.m. March 1, State Theatre for the Arts, 453 Northampton St., Easton.

The Fab Faux has a devoted following in the Lehigh Valley and has returned to the State many times. "We have a huge variety of people in our audience," says Lee. "All ages come. Grandparents bring grandchildren."

Two of the Fab Faux, Rich Pagano and Frank Agnello, present "The Morning After" performance-lecture, 10 a.m. March 2.

Lee has been playing with the Fab Faux since 1998. He came up with the name, the Fab Faux, because he thought it was a fun play on the Beatles' nickname, the Fab Four.

"It's been the same five guys the whole time," he explains. "All of us were inspired by the Beatles. I saw the Beatles on 'The Ed Sullivan Show' [when I was] 11 and that was it. I went back and started practicing my drums. I decided right then that this is what I want to do with the rest of my life."

Lee ihas been the bassist for the "Late Night with David Letterman" band for two decades.

Lee fulfilled a dream of playing with the Fab Faux on the Letterman TV show, which is taped on the same stage where the Ed Sullivan show was presented so many years before. "It was a magical thing to walk into this holy cathedral of love and play," he describes.

The Beatles have been the focus of much media attention recently with the 50th anniversary of the British rock band's first appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show," which was the Beatles' formal introduction to American audiences.

CBS-TV commemorated the occasion this month with "The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute To The Beatles," which featured popular stars of music performing their own interpretations of Beatles' songs. Lee viewed the show and while he enjoyed the performances, he remarks, "Ain't nothing like the real thing."

With the "Fab Faux," Lee and his band members take turns performing lead vocals, depending on their particular passion for a song. Music instruments are changed up between band members, as well.

For their upcoming performance at the State, Lee promises the Fab Faux will bring a great variety of favorite Beatles' songs to the set list and bring the beauty of the music of what they and many consider to be the greatest rock 'n' roll band of all time to the Lehigh Valley.
