Liberty senior, Rachel Steiner, took fifth place with 343.05 points at the Class AAA District XI Diving Championships on Feb. 22 at Emmaus High School.
Easton's Kelsey Jehl placed first with 392.2 points. Placing just ahead of Steiner was Whitehall's Kailyn Beil, who scored 345.10 points.
"Throughout the meet, we went back and forth a lot, and with [Emmaus's] Anna [Oberholts] too, and then they would get ahead of me and drop down," said Steiner.
Steiner relied on her inward dive as the first of her 11 dives and received a high score of 8.0.
Another high-scoring dive for Steiner was her front one-and-a-half.
"I got a good hurdle and got good height, and my pike was tight," she said.
Steiner's final dive was a back one full twist, a relatively new dive for the Hurricane senior.
"It went better than last time. I got higher scores," she said.
Steiner also showed improvement on her front dive full twist.
"It sometimes doesn't score very well because I over twist, but it was pretty good yesterday," said Steiner.
Overall, Steiner was pleased with her final diving season at Liberty.
"I was happy with it. I got a lot more first places in dual meets than before, and being my senior year, it was good," she said.
Other local finishers were: Brenna McCornac of Liberty 7th, Rachel Finn of Liberty 8th, Kaycee Stoudt of Freedom 11th and Madison Young of Freedom 12th.
