Barry S. Nonnemacher

Barry S. Nonnemacher, 56, of Alburtis, lost his struggle with pancreatic cancer Feb. 16, 2014. He was the husband of Rosemarie (Striny) Nonnemacher for 30 years. Born in Allentown, he was the son of Christine (Roth) Nonnemacher and the late Harvey Nonnemacher who died in 1992.

He graduated from Emmaus High School in 1975 and was an outstanding wrestler.

He worked in the golf course industry for 20 years, and took great pride in creating "PGA quality" conditions, first at Center Valley Club, then Saucon Valley Club and Northampton Country Club. He was last employed by Northampton Memorial Shrine as a cemetery groundskeeper.

An avid archer, he lived to hunt. He loved being outdoors, whether working, hunting, fishing, tending his garden or just watching his backyard bird friends. In spite of his gruff exterior, he loved his family and friends dearly and would do anything for them. His unique character will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife; mother; son, Damien, of Macungie; sisters, Renee and her husband Mike Halm, of Macungie, Judie and her husband Belton Goff, of McCormick, S.C., and Alice Welsh, of Macungie; brothers, Tommy, of Emmaus, Jack and his wife Diane, of Emmaus, Ron, of Emmaus, Mike, of Chapman's, Tim and his wife Jan, of Hatfield, and Terry and his wife Martha, of Littleton, Colo.; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Gary who died in 1986 and William who died in 2013.

Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Feb. 21 in the Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., 250 Main St., Emmaus. Visitation 2 to 3 p.m. Feb. 21 in the funeral home.
