School board hires new coach
A new Northampton Area High School "Konkrete Kids" varsity football coach has been hired, with promises to "turn the program around."
Mark Scisly was hired, as recommended by the Northampton Area School District administration, by the Northampton Area School Board, by a vote of 7-0 Monday night. Two board members were absent.
Scisly, an East Penn School District Lower Macungie Elementary School health-physical education teacher since August 2002, has been the Boyertown Area High School head football coach since February 2008.
"He's taken some programs that were similar to ours and turned them around," NASD Athletic Director Todd Bowser said.
"He knows he has a lot of work ahead of him," Bowser said, introducing Scisly at the meeting in the administration building. "I'm really excited about the future of Northampton football."
Scisly was at the meeting and spoke to the board.
"I'm excited to get the program back on the winning track," he said.
"I think I'll be coming back to some football games," school board member Jean Rundle said.
Scisly was hired as NAHS head football coach for the 2014-15 school year, with the equivalent of 11 years experience at a compensation of 100 percent of the head coach stipend, for a compensation of $14,198, pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement, with no benefits, pending receipt of acceptable clearances.
NASD school board members voted at the Jan. 13 board meeting to accept the resignation of Jeffrey Brosky as NAHS head football coach. Brosky resigned Dec. 19, 2013.
Brosky, who coached the NAHS varsity football team for two years, had a record of two wins and 21 losses. This past season, the NAHS varsity football team had no wins and 12 losses overall, including nine losses in the Lehigh Valley Conference, and a loss to the Catasauqua High School "Rough Riders" in the annual Turkey Day Game Nov. 28.
Scisly was Salisbury Township High School head football coach March 2004-January 2008.
Scisly had also been NAHS varsity football offensive line coach April 2003 - February 2004.
Scisly received a BS in exercise and sports science from Ursinus College and an MSA in sports and athletic administration from West Chester.
