Rusnock wants to keep season going

Through his academics and athletics, Jake Rusnock has managed to hone the art of time management.

In his senior season, Rusnock has posted 30 wins at his 132-pound weight class and has maintained his rank as the third best student in his class. Rusnock also is president of the school's National Honor Society, treasurer of the Varsity C club, secretary of the SADD, and a member of Student Council.

As a result, Rusnock has decided on a college major of economics and had narrowed his choices to the University of Pennsylvania, Lehigh University or Bucknell University.

"I took some classes related to the major and thought it would be a good fit for me," said Rusnock, who also ran cross country in the fall. "I have always enjoyed math classes and I have learned how to juggle my time. It has been a challenge during wrestling season because I usually don't get home until after 7 (o'clock) and then have to study.

"But I have enjoyed all of it and heave learned from it as well."

Rusnock doesn't plan to end his wrestling season anytime soon either. He has increased his win total from 24 last season and has felt more comfortable with his surroundings. With an overall 31-4 mark, Rusnock should be among the top grapplers in his weight class when the District 11 Class 2A tournament begins Feb. 21.

"I really got settled in at 132 (pounds) last year," he said. "I feel everything is really going well this year. I went to club wrestling in the fall and that has helped me get stronger and became a more complete wrestler."

After completing their final dual meets against Pius X and Pocono Mountain East, Rusnock and his teammates basically have enjoyed a two-week hiatus before districts.

"It (districts) has been set up better for us this year," said Rusnock. "It will be a good two weeks off for us. We have the chance to clean some things up, and get back to what we have been working on all year and the things that have worked for us."

Rusnock has also received some added support from fellow senior Zac Bradley and Rhaine Sziy, as the senior trio has been wrestling together in the Catasauqua program since their kindergarten days.

"We all have been together over the years, and we have all helped and benefitted from each other," said Rusnock. "We're all looking forward to go deep into the postseason and all go out together on a high note."
