Laubach Avenue will soon have handicapped curbs constructed at intersections.
Northampton Borough Manager Gene Zarayko reported at the Feb. 6 council meeting he expects bid specifications to be advertised in newspapers later this month or early March. Contracts could be awarded within the next month to two months, he said.
Borough officials met with a Northampton County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) committee representative and borough Engineer David Lerr of Lehigh Engineering to review criteria to prepare the specifications for the curb project.
"There would also be a handicapped access walkway to the municipal park," Zarayko said.
Council was told because funding is by way of the federal government the Bacon Davis wage rates apply.
The borough for years submitted its CDBG applications to the state, which funded many home improvement projects in the borough for homeowners who qualified for such projects. More recently, Northampton County was authorized to handle CDBG grant applications from municipalities across the county.
In other public works and sewer committee activity matters, Councilman Keith Piescienski, committee chairman, reported personnel from the public works department will be refurbishing 30 older Christmas lights. The Christmas lights were purchased by the Northampton Exchange Club in the 1970s. It is the second time the lights will be refurbished.
Piescienski said there are approximately 100 Christmas decorations. Plans are to refurbish 30 annually.
Also, the weight limit sign for the Dry Run Creek Bridge on Howertown Road was installed along with permit parking signs erected on Evans Street, between 128th and 19th streets.
