After nearly a two-year process and 250 hours of sweat equity, a Bethlehem family has had a dream come true.

Habitat for Humanity of the Lehigh Valley dedicated a home recently on Aaron Street for Damaris Torres and her son, Alex.

Andrew Scott, Habitat Lehigh Valley Board chair, welcomed and thanked the many volunteers, donors and the City of Bethlehem for their dedication.

Ruth Henriquez, elder at the Koinonia House of Worship, offered the blessing in Spanish and her son Pastor Eliseo Rivera offered a blessing in English.

Damaris was presented with housewarming gifts that included a framed house print of her new home, a small decorated tree from the Bethlehem Garden Club, an embroidery from Lehigh Valley Embroidery Guild, a big box of Just Born candies and a gift card from ReStores which accepts donations of new or gently used building materials and household goods and resells them back to the public.

Habitat for Humanity's mission is to provide affordable housing for hardworking low-income families.

Since 1989, Habitat has built or renovated over 95 homes in the Lehigh Valley.
