'Annie' returns to Catasauqua
Annie is back!
This year, the Catasauqua Area Showcase Theatre will be performing the musical "Annie Warbucks."
When last year's production of "Annie" ended, orphan Annie was about to be adopted by billionaire Oliver Warbucks. Scheming Miss Hannigan, Rooster and Lily St. Regis were hauled off to jail, ending Annie's troubles and making way for a wonderful future.
However, as the story continues in "Annie Warbucks," poor Annie can't even get through the entire Christmas Day without new troubles coming her way.
Commissioner Doyle from the New York Department of Child Welfare enters the picture, threatening to take Annie back to the orphanage unless Oliver Warbucks marries.
A complicated plot begins to unfurl, with new and entertaining characters. As Annie's adventures unfold over a six-month period, there are many surprises, with one final, shocking surprise.
Once again this year, Bill Nothstein will direct the performance, with a cast of children and adults from the community.
"Your powers of perception will be tested, heart wrenching and hysterical songs will entertain you and your interest will be held captive until the show's final minutes," Nothstein says.
This sequel could prove to be even more entertaining than the original "Annie."
"If you loved last year's 'Annie,' you will be thrilled by 'Annie Warbucks,' Nothstein says.
Returning in the role of Annie will be Cala Shander and Christina Concilio. Sue Matol will be returning as Grace, Roger King as Drake, Bob Heffelfinger as FDR, Hannah Kurczeski and Shelby Wandler as Molly, Mia Zappacosta and Celia Doll as Pepper, Ashley Gallagher and Gwen Polles as Tessie, and Samantha Diaz and Ayana Bodisch as July.
Scott Shander will be taking over the role of Oliver Warbucks and Darice Hoffmann will fill the role of Mrs. Pugh.
This outstanding cast will be supported with a host of characters, brought to the stage by both former and new members. A cast of 54 will fill the shows roles.
The production is already in full swing, rehearsing scenes and music while costuming and set requirements are being addressed.
Preparations and rehearsals will move from Sheckler to the High School after the High School production of "Big River" March 6-9.
"Annie Warbucks" will be presented at the Catasauqua High School on April 25-27 and May 2-4. For ticket information visit cattytheatre.org.
Tickets go on sale to the public beginning March 9.
