The Emmaus boys swim team may have put an end to Liberty's undefeated season last Thursday, but the Hornets could not take away the Hurricanes' pride in their 2013-2014 season.
Liberty captain, Brandon Merkert, said, "We're still 12-1. We still have a good record. Knowing they were really fast, we just decided to swim as fast as we can. We said to watch the kids in the lanes next to you and hope for the best."
Individual event winners for the Hurricanes were Reid Rossi in the 100 butterfly with a time of 55.42, Sean Vannata in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.09, and Meryum Okumus, diving for the boys team, with 153 points.
Liberty's Jacob Jones was out-touched in the 50 free, as Emmaus's Andrew Bond placed first in 22.96. Jones's time was 23.19.
Hurricane swimmers, Brandon Hlavaty, Nolan Vannata, Merkert, and Evan Smith also won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:34.07. Emmaus placed second with a time of 1:34.27.
Merkert said, "We started out with the lead, and when I went, we still had the lead. The kid from Emmaus started catching Evan Smith, and then Evan pulled ahead at the end."
This Wednesday will be the long-awaited Liberty versus Freedom meet, scheduled to take place at Freedom High School's Natatorium this year.
"We know they're fast, and they're our rivals. We definitely want to win, but we have to work hard and swim our best times to do it," said Merkert.
This meet was moved up a day because of potential for snow Thursday.
