LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Roughs go 2-2 at duals

Continuing to gain respectability and staying the course have been two hallmarks for the Catasauqua wrestling program this winter. The Roughies consistently followed suit in both categories at the recent District 11 Class 2A championships.

Catasauqua split its four matches during the tournament as they opened with a 49-22 victory over Wilson before they fell to Northern Lehigh, 39-31. In the consolation round, they opened with a 33-37 victory over Palisades before they were defeated by North Schuylkill, 41-33.

It was a productive weekend for seniors Zack Bradley and Rhaine Sziy, who registered wins and falls in each of the matches.

Bradley recorded three falls and a 7-0 decision, while Sziy had a pair of falls and a forfeit in the process. Sziy notched his 100th career win during the four matches.

The Roughies had a match with Pocono Mountain East Wednesday and Pius X Saturday before the individual district tournament begins Feb. 21. Yet, Catty extended its evolving reverence in the Lehigh Valley.

"It pretty much went as planned," said Bradley, a senior who also notched his 100th career win last weekend to raise his record this season to 30-3 overall. "We're where we should be at this point. We beat some good teams and we had close matches overall.

"We know other teams will be gunning for us."

Bradley and his teammates likely welcome the two-week hiatus before the Class 2A district tournament begins Feb. 21 at Freedom.

"It will be nice to have a few weeks off," he said. "We have been going nonstop with matches and tournaments throughout the year. We do need some time to get some rest before districts begin. It will also give us some time to work on some things in practice.

Sziy knows the season now moves onto phase two.

"We have had a good season and did well at the (district team championships)," added Sziy. "But we still have a lot to accomplish."
