Rev. George W. Bahner

The Rev. George W. Bahner, 76, of Fogels-ville, died on Jan. 30, 2014, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

He was the husband of the late Shirley J. (Latsha) Bahner.

Born Feb. 22, 1937, in Dalmatia, Lower Mahanoy Township, Northumberland County, he was the son of the late Ralph E. and Lottie M. (Bingaman) Bahner.

He was an ordained minister of the United Church of Christ since 1963 after graduating with a Master's of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary, New York City, N.Y. and Franklin and Marshall College in 1959.

He served the North Congregational Church, Columbus, Ohio, and Salem UCC Verona, Wisc.; was director of Homewood Retirement, Carlisle, and served Trinity UCC, Coplay.

He served many years throughout his career in an interim capacity.

A member of the United Church of Christ congregation of Ziegels Union Church, Brein-igsville, he participated in rebuilding homes for the needy.

He was a member of the Lehigh Valley Harmonizers, volunteered for Lehigh County Meals on Wheels and the Lehigh County Emergency Response Team.

His survivors include daughters Jean M. Bahner of Rebuck, Linda K. Bahner of Fogelsville; brothers Paul of Ephrata, and Howard and Carl Bahner, both of Halifax.

His memorial service will be 11 a.m. Feb. 8, at Ziegels Union Church, 9990 Ziegels Church Road, Breinigsville, with the Rev. Candi L. Cain-Borgman officiating.

Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ziegels UCC Memorial Fund.
