LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

WESTERN SALISBURY COLUMN Schools closed for Presidents Day

The Salisbury Township School District operations committee meeting has been rescheduled to 7 p.m. Feb. 5 at the administration building. The budget will be reviewed.

Despite all of the snow days this year, Salisbury Township schools are still scheduled to be closed for the Presidents Day weekend. School will not be in session Feb. 14 and 17.

Western Salisbury Elementary will hold Valentine's Day parties Feb. 13.

It was a little weird for me passing by the boxes of valentines in the store this year. With my youngest in middle school now, I no longer have to purchase those little boxes of cards. To be honest, I don't miss it at all. I don't know if it is a boy thing or not, but my sons were never big on the valentine aspect of Valentine's Day. Getting them to sit down and write them out was always a small battle.

My favorite year for Valentine's Day was second grade. Instead of store bought valentines, each student brought home a book put together in school with a page from each classmate listing three things about them that is important. Some were funny, some were sweet, but it was enlightening to see how his classmates and teacher (they wrote one, too) perceived my child. I kept all three of my sons' books and we still look at them from time to time.

The Gertrude Hawk fundraiser will take place at Western Feb. 12 through 27. Please try your best to sell as much as you can because the proceeds help the PTA pay for field trips and clubs.

At Salisbury Middle School, the sixth to eighth graders will have started the new PSSA Writing field test by now. Previously the writing portion was only for grades five and eight. Encourage your kids to get a good night's sleep and try their best on all PSSA tests.

The financial aid night will be held 6:30 to 8 p.m. Feb. 18 at Salisbury High School.

There is a curriculum and technology committee meeting at Western Salisbury Elementary School 7 p.m. Feb. 10 and a regular school board meeting at the administration building 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12.

Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church will host its monthly breakfast 8 to 11 a.m. Feb. 8. A donation is suggested, with all proceeds benefitting the 275th Anniversary Celebration.
