Liberty sophomore swimmer, Reid Rossi, was understandably a little nervous upon entering Nazareth's natatorium last week, having once been a Blue Eagle before moving to Bethlehem.
"I really wanted to win to prove I didn't get slower. Obviously, I was nervous coming here, but they made it really easy for me, and I got to swim against my friends," Rossi said.
Rossi proceeded to take first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.76, and the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.70 in the Hurricanes' 123-60 victory over Nazareth.
"I didn't like the fly, at first, but I like challenging myself. I slimmed down and lost 30 pounds. I fell in love with the fly. 56.7 was my best time [this season]," said Rossi.
Liberty teammates, Sean Vannata, Nolan Vannata, and Jacob Jones combined with Rossi to open the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay in 1:55.68. Other individual event winners for the Hurricanes were Nolan Vannata in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.72, and the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.90, and Jones in the 50 free with a time of 23.13.
In the 400 free relay, Sean Vannata, Jones, Evan Smith, and Nolan Vannata took first place with a time of 3:35.06. Diving for Liberty's boys team, sophomore, Meryam Okumus, won the diving event with 146.10 points. As of Press deadlines, Liberty's boys remain undefeated this season.
Rossi said, "It's pressure, but it's good pressure. I've never gone through a season undefeated."
