LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Student profile: Brooke E. Houle, LV Charter HS for the Arts

Grade: 12

Family members: Sister, Allison Houle, 21, of Chicago; mother, Julia Houle, Bethlehem; father, Mark Houle, Northampton

Favorite subject: Math: It's a universal language and can be found in nearly everything.

Activities: Dance, violin and piano

Next steps: I'm a hopeful candidate for the United States Naval Academy, where I would like to study aerospace engineering.

Career goals: I plan on being a Navy or Marine Corps officer, preferably in the aviation community. My goal is to retire as an admiral or general. Eventually I'd like to work with NASA to help revolutionize flight and space travel.

Heroes: My grandmother, Sonia Houle of Walnutport is my hero because of her lifelong selflessness and optimism.

Hobbies: My activities are my main hobbies, but one of my recent favorites is pistol shooting.

Current job(s): Wegmans cashier

Volunteer/community work: I'm a Moravian Village volunteer. I've done music performances at Gracedale and Country Meadows for the past six years, and I'm hoping to start an "Outreach Arts" program that teaches children about the benefits of the arts, since I've done a few dance performances and classes at schools in the past year.

Likes: Reading, adventuring outdoors, food, fall weather and crafty projects

Dislikes: Pessimism, horror movies and spiders

Greatest accomplishment (so far): My greatest accomplishment is that I've reached every goal I've worked toward thus far, so I'm hoping my hard work this year will pay off in the same way.

Advice for peers: Smile often, set goals, stay positive and work hard.
