Henry H. Smith

Henry H. Smith, 88, of Germansville, died Jan. 26, 2014, in the Inpatient Hospice Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown.

He and his wife Fern I. (Klotz) Smith celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last Feb. 7.

Born Nov. 13, 1925, in Allentown, he was the son of the late Clayton and Mabel (Hunsicker) Smith.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, in the Pacific Theatre of Operations, achieving the rank of seaman first class.

He was the transportation coordinator for Northwestern Lehigh School District for 35 years before retiring in 1988.

Active in the life of his church and community, he was a member of the United Church of Christ congregation of Heidelberg Union Church, Slatington, where he sang with the choir for more than 50 years.

He was a member of the former Vernon G. Kern VFW Post 8344, Schnecksville, life member of the Copeechan Fish and Game Club, Schnecksville, and life member and past president of the Goodwill Fire Co. No. 1, Germansville.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by children Leonard B. and his wife, Patricia, Keith H. and his wife, Barbara, Catherine L. Schwartz and her husband, Jeffrey, and Mark K., all of Germansville; brother Paul C. of Germansville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by siblings, William C. and Catherine Smith.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Jan. 30, in Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecks-ville with Pastor Karen A. Yonney officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects from 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Interment with military honors will follow the service at Heidelberg Union Cemetery, Slatington.
