The ordinance to establish the placement of new stop signs in Weisenberg Township was enacted as the first order of business at the supervisors' Jan. 13 meeting.

Stop signs will be placed at the intersection of Carpet and Tannery roads, and at Carpet and George roads. These intersections will now be three-way stops.

Gateway Hills subdivision was next on the agenda.

Attorney Richard Somach, representing the developer, outlined what he suggested should be the zoning for this tract.

Current zoning is Residential adjacent to a General Commercial District.

The GC designation does not allow the uses he is proposing and he suggested General Industrial would be a better zoning description for the property.

This district allows processing, packaging and assembly uses which would be beneficial to his clients proposal.

He is amenable to any limitations the board would place on the proposal.

He would like the planning commission to review his proposal on the property.

The board took a dim view of the proposal as they discussed the possibilities.

Supervisor Bob Milot was concerned this would not be permitted under the Multi-Municipal Comprehensive Plan for the Northern Region of Lehigh County.

This plan was developed between Weisenberg, Washington, Lynn, Heidelberg and Lowhill townships to designate specific areas for different types of uses within the five townships.

He said this zoning change would violate the agreement. However, the board had no objection to having the township planning commission review the proposal.

In other business, Solicitor Don Lipson said the agreement with Arcadia was sent and should be returned and ready for board signatures at the next meeting. This will close out the account.

Weisenberg Township Volunteer Fire Company Chief Scott Freeman gave his report.

He said the new president of the fire company is Don Guido. The fire company will not have an open house this year.

They expect to have the event again in two years when the new fire truck is delivered.

The number of fire calls were average for the month, with 11 to date.

Township Manager Brian Carl said the December meeting date must be changed for the township planning commission, as that board meets on the fourth Thursday, their meeting would fall on Christmas.

He will check with planning commission members to see what date they would prefer.

The codification process is proceeding as scheduled. Carl said he met with representatives from one of the companies that would conduct the project.

Taxc Collector Jeffrey Strauss presented a list of uncollected taxes to the board.

He also noted his office will have a new procedure for doing business with New Tripoli Bank.
