Company to design website

At a recent meeting of the North Catasauqua Borough Council, borough resident Mark Giorelli commented on the fact that a North Catasauqua Facebook page is being managed by a member of the betterment committee and not an official from the borough. This means announcements are made about community events but not about borough business, which residents might expect to see there.

He said the site could be used for announcing information about garbage, leaf and snow removal services, as needed, if the borough controlled the site.

While council members did not reply about the Facebook site, the comment led to a discussion about the development of a new borough website, where municipal announcements could be made about borough council meetings and municipal services.

A decison was made by the council last year to hire someone to design a website, but it has not yet been activated, according to borough treasurer Annette Englert.

"[Borough Secretary] Nancy [Knecht] and I must get all of the information together for the website designer," she said. "You're talking a week or two to get information to the website company."

Once the website is designed, someone from the office will need to be appointed to keep it updated as needed.

"We need to decide who is going to be the webmaster helper," Councilman John Yanek said.

Englert said getting the initial information ready will be the most time-consuming task.

"Once we get it up and running, it will be no problem for Nancy or I to keep it current," she said.

Lehigh Valley Computer will design the website.
