'Canes try to fix their woes
It's the longest losing streak that Liberty has endured under Chad Landis and that's one feat the head coach isn't thrilled about.
The Hurricanes lost their sixth straight game, falling to Parkland 68-56 last Saturday night. It was the fifth straight league loss for the 'Canes, who have been winless in the new year, as they fell to 6-7 overall and 2-6 in LVC play.
It's been a myriad of problems for Landis, as his team tries to get back on solid ground this week with their season essentially on the line.
"It's been very difficult as of late," Landis said. "I've never been in a situation like this where so many things have gone against us."
The Hurricanes were without KJ Williams on Saturday because of a football visit to Syracuse, as well as endured the absence of Deshawn Oyeniyi, who was out for disciplinary purposes.
Whether it's been injuries or players forced out of duty because of off-court sanctions, it's piled up to a frustrating 2014 for Landis.
"It's disappointing when you have guys missing for disciplinary reasons," he said. "When you plan on having guys in the lineup, it makes it challenging, but has also given other players an opportunity to step up."
Despite the Hurricanes recent form, the mess they've gotten themselves into didn't start with reserves, but began with the full lineup at their disposal. Ever since they defeated Ridley 59-49 on Dec 28, the losses have piled up.
Last week, the Hurricanes dropped three LVC games, battling Central Catholic to an 81-70 defeat and then losing to Dieruff 70-64 in overtime on Friday before dropping Saturday's game against Parkland.
The schedule continues its demanding ways this week, with Emmaus (11-4) on tap for Tuesday night, Spring-Ford (15-1) tonight, Nazareth (6-8) Friday night and Pocono Mountain West (9-4) on Saturday.
"This is a very tough week for us," Landis said. "We started this slump with everybody and when I thought we were going to get ourselves out of it, we started losing guys.
"A lot of it has been self-inflicted wounds and we haven't given ourselves a chance to play out of it yet. We'll have to do that sooner than later if we want to keep our district hopes alive."
