Wrestlers remain hot

Catty wrestlers have had a good week with wins over Palmerton, Northern Lehigh and Wilson.

The Roughs beat the Bombers last Wednesday, Jan. 8, 49-24.

The Roughies would get off to a slow start dropping matches at 152 and 160 before Zack Bradley won a major decision, 14-1, to cut the score to 9-4. Palmerton would take a decision at 182 to extend its lead to 12-4 before Catty went on a roll thanks to pins and forfeits.

Rhaine Sziy made quick work of John Illes with a pin in just 25 seconds to cut it to 12-10 before a forfeit at 220 for Satchel Stauffer gave Catty the lead for good, 16-12.

Jared Nosal followed with a pin of Alex Raulo in 2:09 to make it a 22-12 Catasauqua advantage.

Forfeits at 106 and 113 for Catty's Jason Gustin and Jacob Schneck made it 34-12 before Ryan Greene - at 120 - pinned Brandon Trauger in 2:33 to make it 40-12.

Palmerton got pins at 126 and 145 to get to 24 points but sandwiched between was a Jacob Rusnock 3-1 decision over Andrew Ringer at 132 and a Mike Shutta pin of Travis Stroup at 138 in 3:08.

The Rough Riders had a thrilling win over Northern Lehigh that came down to the final match at heavyweight with Satchel Stauffer getting a pin of the Bulldogs Cameron Kates in 1:58.

The Roughies trailed 30-25 heading into that heavyweight contest with Stauffer giving away over 80 pounds in weight difference. But Stauffer was able to prevail and get the pin the team needed for a key victory, 31-30.

The match started at 106 with a Bulldog pin before freshman Ryan Greene took a 4-2 decision to cut it to 6-3. A Nolehi forfeit extended its lead to 12-3 and a Bulldog pin at 126 made it 18-3.

Jake Rusnock won a 4-1 decision at 132 before a Devin Greene major decision, 9-0, at 138 cut into the deficit to make it 18-10 in favor of Northern Lehigh.

A Bulldog pin at 145 made it 24-10 before Nate Doria's 3-0 decision cut it back to 24-13. But Nolehi would take a decision at 160 to extend its lead to 27-13. Zack Bradley won a key match with a 2-1 victory at 170 to cut it to 21-16 before another Bulldog decision made it 30-16.

Catty got a forfeit at 195 for Rhaine Sziy before winning their final two matches of the contest. Jared Nosal had a 3-1 decision at 220 which brought the score to 30-25 before Stauffer's heroics.

Catty's most recent win was a 51-18 thumping of Wilson on Monday night.

The Roughs won all but three matches in this contest. The match started at 152 and CHS rattled off seven-straight wins to essentially put things away.

Nate Doria at 152, Josh Melendez at 160 and Zack Bradley at 170 all pinned their opponents to give the Roughs an 18-0 advantage heading into 182. There, Tyler Trobetsky won a 3-2 decision over Darkens Corridle to make it 21-0.

A pin in just 35 seconds by Ben Nosal at 195 and a forfeit win for Rhaine Sziy at 220 extended Catty's lead to 33-0 before Jared Nosal's 7-5 decision over Michael Fabien at 285 made it 36-0.

The Warriors got on the board at 106 with a tech fall to make it 36-5, but Catty answered right back with a Jason Gustin pin in 2:28 at 113 to make it 42-5. A Ryan Greene forfeit win made it 48-5.

Catty and Wilson would alternate wins over the final four matches. The Roughs got a pin from Jake Rusnock in just 40 seconds at 132 and then a 12-7 decision for Mikey Shutta at 145.
