McGinty takes fifth

Freedom High School sophomore, John McGinty, placed fifth at the Lehigh Valley Conference Diving Meet on Saturday at Emmaus High School.

McGinty scored 277.4 points, edging out Emmaus's Andrew Vanina, who had been in fifth place, by one point on the last dive, an inward one-and-a-half for McGinty.

"That pretty much put me in the lead. He messed up his dive, and I nailed that one and took the lead," McGinty said.

McGinty's best dive of the day was a front one-and-a-half.

"I got a lot of height and good rotation," he said.

McGinty's first dive of the day was a front dive straight.

Regarding his overall performance, McGinty said, "I thought I'd do all right but not as good as I did. I kept it simple. I could have done [more difficult dives like] my double. There were a couple of dives I didn't do as good as I could have."

In anticipation of a second LVC meet in February, diving coach, Jeff Zettlemoyer, also wanted to keep things simple for the first eleven-dive meet of the season.

"I kept everything simple to practice form rather than function. Line-ups and entry into the water were more important," said Zettlemoyer.

Allentown Central Catholic's Nick Crouse placed first for the boys, and Nicole Sagl, also from Central, placed first for the girls.

Liberty's Brenna McCornac placed sixth with 320.05 points.

"Brenna hit all her dives but one. Her back one-and-a-half tuck was very good," Zettlemoyer said.

Liberty's Rachel Steiner placed ninth with 296.05 points, Rachel Finn, also from Liberty, placed 11th with 292.5 points, and Freedom's Kaycee Stoudt was 12th with 265.5 points. Liberty's Samantha Kincaid placed 15th with 237.15 points, and Freedom's Madison Young was 17th with 231.1 points.
