LHS girls get two wins

Liberty High School's girls swimming team scored two victories over Central Catholic, 124-59, and Dieruff, 122-28 last week.

In the Hurricanes' meet against the Vikings, individual event winners for Liberty were Madison Sauers in the 200 free with a time of 2:11.08, Jocelyn Baker in the 200 IM with a time of 2:23.51, Julia McCarthy in the 50 free with a time of 25.15 and the 100 free with a time of 55.00, Kayla Drago in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:04.32, Rachel Rider in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.01, and Emily Cecchini in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.18.

Regarding the 100 fly, Drago said, "Last year, I used to do the fly and the 200 free. This year I changed my training, and I'm doing sprint practices. I'm really focused on sprinting."

In relay events, Cecchini, McCarthy, Rider, and Drago won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:56.53, and Sauers, Baker, Drago, and McCarthy won the 200 free relay with a time of 1:46.44.

In the Hurricanes' meet against the Huskies, individual event winners for Liberty were McCarthy in the 200 free with a time of 2:00.46, Rider in the 200 IM with a time of 2:21.09, Emily Buell in the 50 free with a time of 27.48, Drago in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.45, Baker in the 500 free with a time of 5:27.62, Cecchini in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:06.59, and Jessica Becker in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.51.

Drago said, "With people in new events, they really put in the effort."

Liberty's girls also swept all relay events.

Cecchini, Becker, Drago, and Shelby Turner took first place in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:58.70, Baker, Turner, McCarthy, and Drago placed first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:45.54, and Drago, Turner, Baker, and McCarthy won the 400 free relay with a time of 3:52.02.
