LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

FHS 3rd at Virginia Duals

Brandon Hall was not pleased with his team's 34-24 loss to Northampton last week. He let his team know about it following the defeat and hoped the message would resonate with the Patriots as they headed to the Virginia Duals over the weekend.

Obviously, Hall's message stuck, as the Patriots (12-4) came home with a third place finish in the American Division following a 34-27 victory over Eastern View (VA).

The victory propelled Freedom to a 5-1 record over the weekend, as well as avenge a 34-32 loss to Eastern View from Friday's action.

"We got a little retribution with that win," said Hall of his team's third place clinching victory. "It was good to take home some hardware, since it was the first time since 2002. If we didn't come home with anything this year, we would consider not coming down next year because of all the costs and travel involved, but I was happy at how we finished the week."

Following last Wednesday's loss to Northampton, Hall was disappointed with the blown opportunity he felt his team left on the mat on a night where Bethlehem Catholic and Liberty both topped traditional powers Nazareth and Easton respectively.

A win over Northampton would have made it a historic night for Bethlehem wrestling, but the result never materialized.

"I don't think I've ever been more disappointed with the team," said Hall of the loss to the K-Kids. "We didn't rise up to the challenge and maybe that's my fault. We just didn't wrestle hard and we had a great opportunity in front of us and we didn't take advantage of it. "We talked about all the things we didn't do well afterwards and it was good to see the kids respond with the type of performance they put on in Virginia."

While the Pates hold an impressive 12-4 mark, things will start to heat up for them over the next week, as they took on Parkland Monday night and suffered a 37-22 loss to drop them to 2-2 in LVC action.

They take on Easton (5-2) tonight and head to the Juniata Duals this weekend. They follow that up with a matches against Nazareth (6-2) and Liberty (13-1) next week.

"If we want to be wrestling our best at the end of the year, we need to take on the best teams," said Hall about his upcoming schedule. "If we want to be considered one of the top teams, we're going to have to compete better against some of the teams we have coming up."
