On Jan. 22, many Central Catholic High School students will participate in the March for Life, along with hundreds of others, in Washington, D.C.
For years now, Central Catholic students have been proud to participate in this protest and support their beliefs. Students are given the opportunity to travel to the U.S. Capitol the day before to participate in an overnight vigil. The next day students who did not partake in the overnight vigil join those who did. They then join the thousands who march on the Capitol to show their opposition to pro-choice legislation.
Starting in 1973, the March for Life has quickly grown into the largest pro-life demonstration in the world. The catalyst was the Roe v. Wade decision by the Supreme Court. Taking place on this anniversary, this demonstration is intended to show there are those who do not support this long-standing decision in a peaceful, organized manner.
This is a great opportunity for students to see some of the nation's capitol, while spending time with friends. Students who choose to participate miss a day of school and are given the choice of using this as a retreat for school or having the day count for required service hours.
Many in the Central Catholic family are a part of this trip, including teachers and staff. This is a heavily attended event by students of Central Catholic, giving them the opportunity to support what they feel is right.
