Thomas S. Muller was offically sworn in as Lehigh County Executive during a ceremony Jan. 6in the Lehigh County Government Center, Allentown.

Surrounded by family, friends and supports, Muller said he initially did not envision himself as an active political participant and candidate.

"Twelve months ago, I honestly did not think I'd be running for county executive," he said. "It's quite a surprise. Until eight years ago, I avoided the political arena like a plague."

The condition of local and Washington politics prompted Muller to enter politics.

"No one changed a thing, so I decided to step in the game," he said.

Muller said he hopes to equip Lehigh County residents with an opportunity to learn more about county government and how it works.

He plans on holding monthly town hall meetings and would like tocreate a website to involve residents in government.

"I plan to be an executive on the go," he said.

Administering the oath of office was Lehigh County Court of Common Pleas President Judge the Honorable Carol McGinley.

Lehigh County Sheriff Ronald Rossi provided remarks.

The invocation and benediction were given by the Very Rev. Msgr. John P. Murphy, St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Allentown.

Murphy in his benediction said he would like Republicans and Democrats to bridge the gap and come together as one to solve the county's pressing problems.

Muller replaces Matt Croslis, appointed last year to the position to fill a vacancy left by the resignation and death of Executive Bill Hansell.
