Mayor Bob Donchez is drawing on Bethlehem city government's mayoral history as he'll be using former Mayor Paul Marcincin's desk in his City Hall office. Donchez, who called Marcincin a "mentor who was like a father," said "the desk has a lot of meaning to me and it's appropriate that this desk will be in that office."

Both Donchez and Northampton County District attorney John Morganelli had co-chaired Marcincin's election campaigns for mayor.

The cherry veneered desk was moved into City Hall Jan. 2 in anticipation of Donchez's swearing in Jan. 6. Dr. Terry Marcincin, the former mayor's son, had been storing the desk in his northeast city dentistry office.

Dr. Marcincin expressed that he felt his father's legacy would live on through the desk's return to the mayor's office. "We're very honored that Bob wanted to do this," Marcincin said.

Paul Marcincin served as mayor from 1978 until 1986 and later in 1997 on an interim basis filling the unexpired term of Mayor Ken Smith. He passed away in 2009 at the age of 88.
