WESTERN SALISBURY COLUMN Another snow day for Salisbury students
As I write this, Salisbury Township School District is experiencing snow day number three.
My house is quiet because the kids are still sleeping and I look out the window at a peaceful world of white. Aaahhh, the joys of a snow day. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. Mine were very relaxing. There were a lot of days spent in our jammies with the boys playing new video games and me snuggling under my new, very soft blanket reading a book. Good times.
Okay, let's get down to business. Christmas trees will be collected by Waste Management during the weeks of Jan. 6 and 13 on the second pick up of the week.
There is a curriculum and technology committee meeting being held at Salisbury Middle School 7 p.m. Jan. 13 and a school board meeting 7:30 p.m. Jan. 15 in the administration building.
All Salisbury Township School District schools are scheduled to be closed for students Jan. 20 for the teachers to have a professional development day.
Western Salisbury Elementary PTA has two events on the calendar. On Jan. 14, the group will hold a fundraiser at the Outback Steakhouse in the Village West Shopping Center on Tilghman Street in Allentown. The WSE PTA will receive a percentage of the sales between 5 and 8 p.m.
The PTA is also starting up another six-week session of Wednesday night yoga classes. Starting Jan. 15, the classes will be held 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. in the music room. There is a cost for all six weeks or a drop-in fee. Fifty percent of all proceeds will benefit the PTA. The classes will be led by Stacey Greenholt and you will need to provide your own yoga mat.
The Salisbury Middle School Interact Club is conducting a clothing drive through Jan. 17. Items may be brought to the school during this time and placed outside the main office. The donations will be given to Allentown School District's Community Closet to help students in Central Elementary and surrounding families. All sizes are being collected.
Jan. 17 is the end of the second marking period for Salisbury Middle School and Salisbury High School. Halfway through the school year….WOW!
Also coming up at SHS are the Keystone Exams. The junior class will take the Algebra Assessment Jan. 9 and 10, the Literature Assessment Jan. 14 and 15 and any junior who did not score a proficient on the Biology Assessment when taking the test as a freshman will take that test Jan. 16 and 17.
Now, the good news. On those testing days, school will run on a two-hour delay schedule for those students not taking the Keystones. If you would like more information about the Keystones, there is a link on the SHS website entitled Keystone Exam Letter.
Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church will host its monthly breakfast 8 to 11 a.m. Jan. 11. A donation is suggested. All proceeds benefit the 275th anniversary celebration at the church.
In the time it took me to write this, only one of my sons crawled out of bed, the roads are all plowed and traffic is moving. I guess it is time to start my day. Have a great one, everybody!
