Soccer scholar athlete banquet to take place
The following are area nominees for this weekend's soccer scholar athlete banquet which will take place
Marcin H. Boraganli
Bethlehem Catholic
Boraganli is a midfielder with 10 career goals and 10 career assists. He ranks 19th in a class of 193, and has a 3.75 GPA out of 4.0
He has been a varsity starter for all four seasons, including two years as a captain. He is also on the tennis team, debate team, FACT club, German club, International Club, Pep Club and Class Club.
He will attend the University of Toronto and major in actuarial science.
Julia C. Madison
Bethlehem Catholic
Madison is a forward/outside midfielder, and has three career goals. This is her first season playing soccer. She ranks 12th in a class of 193, and has a 3.88 GPA out of 4.0
Her extra-curricular activities include: German Club, Hawk Ambassador, Students Against Destructive Decisions Club, Powder Puff Flag Football League, National Honors Society and Future Alumni Club of Today and Tomorrow. She also plays softball for Becahi.
She most likely plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh with a major in physical therapy.
Nigel A. Long
Freedom
Long is a midfielder, defender and forward and has tallied 16 career goals and 10 career assists. He ranks 125th out of 474 with a 3.65 GPA out of 4.0.
He was awarded the Coach's Award in 2012, the Dwight D. Eisenhower Award and MVP award this past season. He plans to attend a four-year college to major in business/sports management.
Julia R. Walther
Freedom
Walther is a defender for Freedom and has recorded five career goals and four career assists. She ranks 84th out of a class of 473 with a 3.5 GPA out of 4.0.
She has played varsity for four seasons, including two seasons as a captain. She is also a member of Student Council, Thon and Rachel's Challenge.
She is hopeful to attend West Chester University and major in physical therapy.
Thomas C. Epsaro
Liberty
Esparso plays forward and defense for Liberty, and has accumulated eight career goals and two career assists. He ranks 40th in a class of 700. He had a 4.2 GPA out of 5.0.
He also plays legion baseball and high school baseball for Liberty. He plans to attend Bloomsburg University and major in physical therapy.
Amelia C. Sapirman
Liberty
Amelia is a goalkeeper and has recorded six career goals and five career assists. She has a 4.2 GPA out of 5.0, and ranks 58th in a class of 655. She has played club soccer for 13 years.
She is a member of the Grenadier Band, orchestra, pit orchestra, girls scouts, Celtic Classic and National Honor Society.
She is committed to play soccer at New Jersey Institute of Technology and Honors College where she will major in mechanical engineering.
Kiera L. Hess
Moravian Academy
Hess is a goalkeeper on the Lions team, and has played for all four seasons. She has also played basketball for four seasons, participated in wind ensemble for three seasons and zumba for one.
She volunteered for Meals on Wheels in 2011, and volunteered at Camp Fowler through Valley Youth House in 2012.
She remains undecided on her college and major.
Luke H. Gutekunst
Moravian Academy
Gutekunst is a defender/ center back with 16 career goals and 15 career assists. He has a 4.13 GPA out of 4.3, and ranks in the top 10 percent of a class of 76.
He has played soccer and basketball all for years. He is also a four-year member of the Moravian Academy Chorale, three-year member of the Moravian Academy Chamber Singers, and a four-year performer in the Moravian Academy Coffee House.
He plans to attend college, but is undecided on major at this point.
Zachary A. Hogan
Notre Dame
Green Pond
Hogan is an attacking midfield with 12 career goals and eight career assists. He ranks 5th in a class of 127, and has a 3.74 GPA out of 4.0.
His extra-curricular activities include: Key Club, Mini Thon, National Honor Society (president), Hoby Ambassador and Foreign Language Honor Society. He has also played club soccer for Lehigh Valley Magic for five years.
He plans to attend a four-year university and major in business.
Colleen A. Elward
Notre Dame
Green Pond
Elward is a midfielder with six career goals and three career assists. She ranks 53rd out of a class of 121, and has a 3.0 GPA out of 4.0.
She is a four-year varsity player, and won the Most Improved Award during her freshman season. She is also a member of 24-hour Mini Thon, Key Club, S.A.D.D., a Kairos Spiritual Retreat leader and a Miracle League volunteer.
She plans to attend Shippensburg or West Chester University and major in accounting.
