Bethlehem Catholic High School's varsity cheerleading squad won a bid to nationals last month at the Northeast Regional Cheerleading Competition at Kutztown University.
Becahi cheerleading captain, Lauren Rebovich, said, "It was the best feeling in the world. Everyone was jumping. It was the greatest feeling."
Adding to the intensity of the moment was the Hawks' uncertainty as they waited for the bid announcement.
"When we found out we got seventh place [in the competition at Kutztown], we were very disappointed because usually, only the top four get bids, but then, they announced us second," said Rebovich.
After competing in two other competitions earlier this season, the Hawks made some changes to their routine for the Northeast Regional Competition.
"We changed some groups, switched some people around. We changed our degree of difficulty and made the routine cleaner," Rebovich said.
Becahi opened their routine with pike standing tucks, and ended with a pyramid. The Hawks' dance segment included music with remixes of 20 songs, and took place in the second half of the routine.
"I definitely think it was the best routine so far, and it will only get better," said Rebovich.
The Hawks will compete at nationals on Feb.8 at the Disney All-Star Resort in Orlando, Fl.
"Our goal is to make it to finals," Rebovich said.
If so, the Hawks will compete again on Feb. 9 for the national championship.
