Students cited for truancy
Fourteen parents have been charged with truancy, according to Whitehall Township Police Chief Linda Kulp.
Police officer Richard Hope, who serves as Whitehall High School Resource Officer, informed Kulp of the truancy charges at the November 2013 meeting of the board of commissioners.
Nine of the students are freshmen, three are sophomores, one a seventh grader and another a sixth grade student. Five of the students cited for truancy were females. The remaining students were male.
Hope also said an eighth grade student was charged with harassment and disorderly conduct.
Police also reported on a case involving a man who purchased a desk at a storage garage auction who later found packets of heroin and a journal of drug activity inside the desk. Township police turned the case over to the Lehigh County Drug Task Force.
Police also reported on an individual who claimed he was interested in buying a home and was later apprehended in South Whitehall Township in the midst of a burglary. Officials said the suspect confessed to entering the house for sale.
Another such incident took place in the 5100 block of Hillside Avenue. A shower curtain and rod, air freshener and a set of blinds were removed, police said. Also, in the 5800 block of Coplay Road, police said the individual stole an oil furnace and electrical fixtures for an above ground swimming pool. Later in South Whitehall Township, the same individual allegedly committed a similar offense and was later apprehended. Police said the individual confessed to the Coplay Road burglary.
Also, police said four homes under construction in the 5500 block of Bayberry Lane were broken into. Police said only a small section of copper piping and some carpet tools were taken. Officials said the four homes have plumbing systems made of plastic tubing, not copper.
