LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Letter to the Editor

To the Editor:

This letter is for the truck driver who tried to turn onto Route 737, Kempton, Dec. 26.

Thank you.

The day after Christmas there aren't many people on the road. So the snow should not have been a major issue.

Unfortunately, the entire area was unprepared for it. Even the weather forecasters had to amend their predictions.

The roads weren't treated until after the fact and there were accidents all over.

You could have been another one, but you handled your truck like a champ.

You maintained a respectful speed the entire length of Route 143.

You gave me ample warning in advance of your turn onto Route 737.

Your heart must have been in your throat as you felt the trailer slide the wrong way.

It was clear the turn wasn't going to happen.

But you kept calm, kept the cab and trailer on the road.

You kept you and me safe.

I waved as I went by, but I'm not sure if you understood why.

I wanted to thank you in a more public way.

While I have complained about truck drivers who have been less than polite on the road, I have no complaints about you or the way you drive.

Most especially on a snowy, untreated back road.

Thanks again and many more miles of safe driving to you in 2014.

Bernadette Sukley
