Wildlands Conservancy offers winter activities
If you are hunting around for free, local fun, look no further. The Wildland Conservancy is offering a series of free activities in January.
Kicking off the month, the conservancy is hosting a "Doggie Hike" 4 p.m. Jan. 7. Bring your canine out for a guided tour through woodland trails.
For those interested in depicting wildlife with water colors, a "Water Color: Birds of Winter" class will be held 9 a.m. Jan. 11 at Trexler Environmental Center, 4935 Orchard Road, Schnecksville. Helpful tips, painting techniques and step-by-step demonstrations on how to use watercolors and watercolor pencils will be presented.
Interested in capturing your outdoor images from behind a camera? Photographer Scott Brenner will teach the class, "Nature Photography 101 for Adults" 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 16. He will highlight the basics of shutter speed, aperture and ISO and explain how they influence photos. He will also touch on composition, lens selection and lighting basics. A variety of camera types will be discussed, including differences and similarities.
An additional photography class focusing on the challenges of taking photos in winter weather conditions, will be offered 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 19 called, "Photography: Nature in Winter."
Bird enthusiasts will also have two classes to choose from. The first will be a bird watching walk called "Bird and Nature Trek" 8 a.m. Jan. 18. A second class, "Wild in the Parks: Winter Bird Walk" will be held 8 a.m. Jan. 19 at Cedar Beach Park. Binoculars will be available for participants to borrow.
The doggie hike, bird walks and photography classes will be held at the Pool Wildlife Sanctuary.
For a small fee, the conservancy offers additional unique curriculums for the month of January, such as snowshoeing and animal yoga. To register for a class or additional details, refer to the website www.wildlandspa.org or contact the Wildland Conservancy at 610-965-4397, ext. 136.

The Salisbury Township Zoning Hearing Board meeting planned for Jan. 7 has been cancelled.
The township's trash and recycling services will be changed for the New Year's Day holiday. The pickup date of Jan. 1 has been rescheduled to Jan. 4.
The Salisbury Township municipal offices will be closed Jan. 1, New Year's Day.
In school news, remind your children to pull out their Harry S Truman T-shirt New Year's Eve. They will then be prepared to wear it Jan. 2 for T-shirt Day.
On Jan. 6, HST is extending an invitation to parents and guardians of fourth grade students to visit the school and enjoy lunch with their students.
The elementary school's PTO meeting will be held Jan. 6 as well.
Salisbury High School's Interact Club has organized a clothing drive for Jan. 2 to 17. Place donated items in the boxes located outside the high school's main office. All donated apparel will go to Allentown School District's community closet. The clothes will benefit students in Central Elementary and families in the surrounding area.
Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Eastern Salisbury will host an afternoon of bingo 2 p.m. Jan. 26. Doors open 1 p.m. The bingo event is sponsored by the Sunday school.
