Holidays welcomed
The first semester will be coming to an end within the next few weeks at Moravian Academy. Consequently, students are currently extremely occupied and stressed studying for their midterms. On a more positive note, however, the end of the painful and stressful process of college applications is very near for seniors. In fact, a few of the senior students know where they will be spending the next four years of their lives, having already been accepted to their colleges of choice.
In November, Moravian held its annual Coffeehouse variety show, which as usual was a huge success. Both nights were completely sold out. The show featured a variety of singing acts and musical acts, acting skits, and as usual numerous cultural dances. This year these ethnic dances included an Asian, Indian and Greek.
Another tradition that continued this year is the annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament that takes place the day before Thanksgiving break begins. The team of Luke Gutekunst ('14), Chris Anderson ('14), and Justin Manhoff ('14), won for the third year in a row, proudly calling their success a three-peat.
Moravian's new athletic center is expected to open within the coming months. An event that students, especially those seniors who only get a few months to use it, have been eagerly waiting for.
This December, as is done every year, Dr. Krohn, the director of the Upper School, delivered his famous holiday poem. Dr. Krohn based his poem on the incredibly long poem "Howl," by Allen Ginsberg. The reason his poem is so lengthy is because the goal of this poem is to mention something about every single student and be funny while doing so. This year's poem was undoubtedly his most successful. At multiple points, he had to pause for more than a few seconds to let the enormous laughter die down. In one line, Dr. Krohn even rapped a little bit in an effort to imitate one of our students. These last few months at Moravian have been incredibly hectic and filled with activities and work for essentially every student. However, students will finally have a chance to relax and regain sleep during the long winter break. Once break is over, the first semester will be over within two weeks.
Additionally, students are looking forward to seeing both basketball teams have successful seasons throughout the months of January and February. As usual there are many activities and events to look forward to in the New Year; however, right now student's minds are mostly fixed on making the most of their winter holidays.
