Moisey wins title at Beast of the East tourney
Bethlehem Catholic's Zeke Moisey had quite a weekend at the Beast of the East tournament in Delaware, snaring a title at 126-pounds and coming away with the outstanding wrestler award.
Moisey defeated the nation's second-ranked wrestler in the finals, posting a 7-4 decision over Blair Academy's Matthew Kolodzik.
His performance helped Becahi come home with a seventh place team finish after compiling 112.5 points.
Despite achieving the goal of a top 10 finish, head coach Jeff Karam still felt that his team left things on the table.
"I thought there were bouts that we lost and could have won," Karam said. "We lost too many bouts in the last 30 seconds of the third period and we didn't look as sharp as we did a week ago. That's going to happen at this type of tournament because the competition is tough, but we definitely have room for improvement."
Luke Karam (113) also reached the finals for the Hawks, but lost an 11-1 major decision to Nick Suriano of Bergen Catholic.
Andrew Dunn (HWT) was the only other Hawk to medal at the tournament, finishing fifth following a 6-4 decision over Wyatt Cook of McDonogh.
Coming home with three medals isn't a disappointment at all, but Karam was still hoping for more.
"I thought we'd have a chance to have more guys placing," he said. "Besides programs like Blair, you're not going to have four or five guys medal. I'm happy that we came home healthy. We just had the opportunity to get more wins and that's the frustrating part."
Nazareth and Northampton also made the trek to Delaware and the Blue Eagles came home with an impressive fifth place finish. Becahi is scheduled to wrestle Nazareth on January 8, which is something that Karam already has circled on his calendar, but with the Hawks Christmas tournament taking place this weekend, all the focus is on performing well in the coming days.
"Our tournament is a nice way for us to readjust after being on the road these past two weekends," he said. "We look forward to it and I think we'll learn from the mistakes we made at the Beast and get better from it."
