Whitehall Township police detectives have been busy investigating a host of incidents ranging from an attempted rape to a retail theft ring.
A home invasion case has now been brought before a Lehigh County grand jury. In the case, a man and woman were severely beaten in their home.
Another case involving misappropriation of funds from the Jefferson Street Playground Association remains under investigation by detectives.
Police Chief Linda Kulp in a recent report to Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. and the board of commissioners said detectives are investigating a retail theft ring involving 23 thefts at Walmart. The thefts involve the same group of suspects said to be taking baby formula.
The detectives are also investigating a rape case. A separate incident involving the possible sexual abuse of an 8-month-old child has been deemed unfounded and the case closed.
Ten burglaries are under investigation along with two attempted burglaries. Five break-ins occurred at residences, one at a garage, two at churches and four at businesses. All residential burglaries occurred at vacant homes. In one case, copper piping was stolen.
In another case, a man was stabbed by another man during an altercation. The injuries were not life threatening, police said. The case was closed at the request of the victim.
